THIS GOES BEYOND POLITICS

I believe supporting American troops goes beyond whether or not we agree on why they are there. It is possible to be rooting for the troops while at the same time disagreeing with the Bush administration's reasons for putting them there. I have no issue with the military; my gripe is with the President and those with whom he has surrounded himself.

If you have a local group sending care packages to our troops, please take part.

While we may be tempted to feel pity for them, being in harm's way and all, I know the two guys pictured below, enough to know they probably wouldn't want us to feel that way. I believe they would want us to be proud of them. I am proud of them, and I am glad they are both serving, along with other brave folks I know. Posted by Hello

Buyer, beware...
Unfortunately, I don't think people give much thought to slapping said sticker onto their cars. My guess is that they may not support a war, or Bush but they are behind the American guys and gals out there doing their jobs. Some might feel it as a way of saying, "Hey, look at me, I'm a proud American."
But if you really look into it, you'll find many of those car stickers, magnets, ect, are made in China or other overseas sweatshops and not one red cent goes toward the troops.
If these were made in the USA, providing people jobs and a percentage of the proceeds went to the families of those hurt, killed or MIA in this war, then perhaps I would slap one on my Buick. Until then, it's not likely.
I appreciate anyone doing their job, especially when there is such danger involved, topped off with keeping our freedoms intact. I feel bad for the troops being out there in the sandbox of hell. (My brother 18 years as an Airman, is headed there in January.) I don't think many of them expected this long of a stay.
Anyhow, I could go on for days about my feelings, but I'll spare you.
Here are some links I think you will find interesting.

These ribbon stickers piss me off. As if posting a sticker on your car here in the United States is going to affect the morale of men and women in Iraq who can't see them. It's nothing but jingoistic vanity for the same folks who fishies on their expensive cars in the name of Jesus, who said not to worship things that rust (like cars). The hypocrisy in this country is just too much sometimes.

They have programs where you can send books to Iraq. That sounds more like support to me. Our troops could no doubt use some supplies as well, considering that our chicken hawk leaders aren't bothering to supply them with anything they need to do their job. (After all have to leave several billion in the coffers, so that Halliburton and Lockheed Martin execs won't have to stand on the corner for Christmas this year and beg from strangers.)

Seems like our leaders can send film to Iraq for the occassional staged photo op, while they court martial guys for taking discarded armour from Syria to protect themselves in Iraq. But I am sure these trashy little vanity stickers will make our boys who can't see them feel so much more secure.

We have a local books-to-troops program here. They take used paperbacks, and we're contributing.

As for the little fishies, don't tell anybody but they are just about all swimming TO THE LEFT!

Hmmm, I hadn't noticed that. :) I'll have to take a closer look next time.

Have you head that song "Long Haired Radical Socialist Jew?" That's my favorite Christmas carol. I should put that link on my blog again today for Chritsmas. :)

As a grunt you can't choose the wars you fight, heres hoping that this one doesn't draw out any longer than it needs to.
