About Me
- Name: Snave
- Location: La Grande, Oregon, United States
I am a native eastern Oregonian, and have lived here 50 of my 62 years. I left at 20, but was back by age 32 to be near my parents to help them in times of need. I don't fit in politically here because I view things from a decidedly left wing perspective... but that's o.k. because I love the people, I love the area and for the most part I like living here. I enjoy family time, listening to music, reading books, traveling, bird watching, hiking, backpacking, watching movies, keeping up on politics, watching sports, sitting at the computer so much I get sores on my ass, and playing music... if you need a band for your party or celebration, let me know; I play keyboards and sing for a rock and roll band, and we do mostly "classic rock". (I also like to play guitar and bass and other instruments, but those are for my private enjoyment only!) I am mainly an agnostic/skeptic, but would consider myself spiritual. I work in schools and in clinical settings as a speech/language therapist. It is enjoyable work and it pays some of the bills. I have a rather unpredictable sense of humor, which can get me in trouble at times, but hey, is life worth living without laughter? I think not!

Is that for real? Is that why at Camp Casey they kept making an issue about drinking Gatorade?
"White Knights, White Knights!" or was that nights?. Lets see if Chimpster closes the doors at the next Senate meeting and goes Jim Jones on their asses.
mmm, is there acid in there?
Mmm, that looks good. I'll just drink a little...
No, Tom!!! Don't be drawn to the dark side of the force.
It's mostly just sugar and food coloring anyway. You can buy food coloring and make your own for cheaper. Think limonade with less lemon juice, more sugar, and lots of food coloring.
Thus saith the party that keeps nominating and electing Senators Byrd and Kennedy...
Woops. I accidentally drank some. I'm...whoa, I'm totally hallucinating right now. My toes are talking to me. They're saying, "Follow us, Matt. Visit us in Toeland!"
I have no idea what's going on right now. I should have listened to Snave's warning.
As opposed to the party that elected and re-elected Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms for decades, and elected and re-elected a president that seemed to enjoy his visit to Bob Jones University? Come on, MC. There are some of us who are Democrats who will admit Byrd and Kennedy have pasts which are far less than glamorous. That's a Kool-Aid in which not all of us participate.
If we are not talking about their politics but are talking about known things from politicians' pasts, I think there might be more Republicans who will be standing by Bush, Rove, DeLay, Frist et al no matter what those politicians have done than there are Democrats who staunchly stand by Byrd and Kennedy. I think the GOP is just a little more "Party Uber Alles" than we are. Look at how controlled the GOP is from top to bottom, and how much they control. Isn't it just a little scary?
Snave, honestly, I've seen an increasing level of "Party Uber Alles" from both the Republicans and the Democrats. And as far as a quest for party orthodoxy, there's a balance that must be reached between orthodoxy and a lack of leadership. The Republicans are currently at the former extreme, and the Democrats are currently at the latter. Neither are healthy or good.
Even given that observation, which is a good one, I will still be voting Democrat in 08 because I believe (at this time anyway) that the Democrats are the only real alternative to more Republicans getting elected.
And unlike you, Snave, I will vote for the person I believe is most qualified to hold the top office, regardless of his or her party affiliation, unless they both really suck in which case I may cast a third-party protest vote. I have absolutely no problem voting for either a Democrat or a Republican if he or she is demonstrably better able to lead the nation.
