TAKE A FEW DAYS TO REFLECT...
While John Kerry has now conceded the presidential election to Dubya, that doesn't mean Democrats should concede and bend over for the Republicans.
We need to keep organizing, and keep up the work required to help awaken the country from the post-9-11 stupor we have been in the past few years. Had we had another year of work, we might have achieved our goal of ousting Bush. People have indeed been waking up. As it is now, we have Bush for four more years. We should not make it an easy four years for him.
I predict Bush will keep us in Iraq for the next four years. I believe he will reinstate the military draft. His deficit spending will only increase as he keeps the country on a course of war. As a result of this course, geopolitical tensions will increase. He will attempt to nominate extreme right-wing religious judges to the Supreme Court. Bush will continue to erode the separation of church and state, and science will suffer setbacks. Unions will be attacked, workers' rights will be diminished. He will continue to make decisions based on his feelings, gut instinct and faith, because he doesn't believe in the importance of sound evidence.
Gloomy and nightmarish as that is, I again say there is no reason Bush should have as easy time as he pursues this course. We need to fight him. Now that he appears to have a mandate, albeit a slim one, fighting his agenda now becomes more important than ever. Bush and his administration won the election by making the public afraid of many things. As FDR said, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." We shouldn't be afraid, we should be aggressive. If the next two years are bad enough, we might be able to regain the Senate with some hard work.
So let's take a few days to reflect on what happened, and then come back to the battle, refreshed and ready to rumble. If anything, the results of this election will not weaken us. It will only strengthen our resolve.
Let's keep our collective chin up, and let's keep fighting the good fight!

I agree with everything you've said. I also agree we should take a couple of days to reflect. I'll talk to you soon, Snave.
Obviously my ideal scenario would have seen this comment being one of my last actions as a blogger. obviously thats not how the game played out. I'll still be around then, focusing in on these war mongering idiots. Sic transit Gloria.
I'm glad someone can remain positive--right now I feel like I just got blindsided by a moose. I never believe we should quit (And a part of me wishes Kerry had of waited till all of Ohio's votes were counted just on principle) but I think the DNC has to change their strategies dramaticly. Either we need to be more radical then we've ever been to ignite the youth vote, or more conservative than we've ever been (Or is that already the case?)
