THE TYPICAL GOP RESPONSE TO A PROBLEM #3

Sure Phil, both parties do it. I'm obviously somewhat far to the left on a number of issues, and I'm just suggesting, from my viewpoint, that I don't believe the GOP solutions ever really address the roots of problems. The GOP usually seems to come up with the kind of ideas that work easily with campaigns designed for getting people emotionally stirred up. It tends to seem like a cosmetic kind of quick fix, and it seems like they zero in on solutions that require the least amount of thought and analysis from the public.

For example, I think one possible solution to the problems we now face with the Islamic terrorists is to try and find out why they hate us so much in the first place. I know it won't fix anything right away, that it might take years. The same could be said for a years-long process of invading other countries without provocation. In either approach, there will always still be those left who hate us and want to kill us. Either way, there would probably be more terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.

But what would be best? to continue bombing entire countries into the stone age for the deeds of a few who might or might not have anything to do with those countries (the Republican solution), or making an honest effort, with our great resources, to try and help those countries out of poverty, to help them modernize their infrastructures, or to help them with agriculture and food production (this would be more representative of the Democratic solution.)

Anyway, I was always taught that the way to get rid of your enemies is to make them your friends.

I could probably come up with other examples of ways in which I believe GOP solutions tend toward emotion and instant gratification, but I'll save it for later.

For now, I'll use a fifty-cent word and say I think the GOP is more egregious in its ways of thinking about issues, devising solutions and handling problems than the Democrats are.
