MY DAD

John William Evans, 1927-2006
"Now cracks a noble heart. Goodnight, sweet Prince. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest." - Horatio, in "Hamlet" (William Shakespeare)

My dad passed away Thursday afternoon. It had been a long, hard slog for him the past year and a half. He seemed to go peacefully, and apparently was not in pain. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts, prayers and support. My mom is doing well so far, and so are the rest of us. It is a difficult time, but thus far we are weathering it well. I am relieved that his suffering is done, but I miss him like crazy. Here is the obit that I wrote for the local paper, as posted on the local funeral home website:

Snave,
My thoughts are with you and your family. I have not lost a parent, but I hear it leaves a hole in your heart that is never filled. I am so, so, sorry, and I am glad he passed peacefully.

Peace, my friend.

Thanks, Pursey, for your kind thoughts and welcome to my humble blog. I found your weblog, by the way, and it is simply wonderful. I went ahead and linked it here at my site. Thanks again!

My condolences on the passing of your father.

He sounds as if he was a remarkable man who lived a full, rewarding, and long life.

I hope this, and your memories of him, will make more bearable the sadness you and your family are undergoing.

Having lost both parents, I know the difficulty, the loss, and the sadness that will continue. Many times I've wished my father were still around, when my children were born, or when I needed someone to talk to who was honest with me. Your dad sounds like he was a terrific and interesting guy.

My sentiments to you, Snave, and all your family.
I’ve not much more words for such lost.
Father Time maybe twists our minds but not our memories.
Wish I was there to comfort you all.
A huge hug to your dad that was a real Man.

Well...
What is there to say?
Shortly after my Father passed as I walked my mother from the room I said to her "Now we do something different".

I didn't realise at the time that is wasn't something, it was everything - nothing is the same ever again.
It's only been since October for us and it's much newer for you...
My prayers are for your Mother and your whole family at this time and in all the days to come.

It's in times like these we fully grasp what a difference just one person can make.
